Shell STEP

Shell Step places undergraduates into small and medium sized companies and community organisations to undertake a specific business or technical projects driven by the needs of the host business, enabling them to develop their business through the recruitment of bright, intelligent and talented individuals.
The programme has the dual aim of communicating to small business managers the huge impact an undergraduate can have on their business whilst encouraging undergraduates to consider starting a career within the vibrant small business sector. Over the past 20 years, Shell Step has delivered in excess of 22,000 projects within small businesses throughout the UK.
Businesses
Shell Step provides cost effective, short term and skilled resource to enable you to get a new or outstanding initiative off the ground.
Save time - A dedicated and largely self-sufficient team member will concentrate on your project while you manage your usual day-to-day tasks.
Acquire new skills - Your business will benefit from new skills without committing to training courses or additional employees. Once the project is complete you'll know whether there is an opportunity to expand your team.
Value for money - For a very competitive rate you get a student with skills that your business needs and support from a local Shell Step agent.
Students
Shell Step projects last for 8 weeks. You will take on and deliver a project outlined by your company and produce a report on your results.
To help you succeed, you will be assigned a mentor for day to day advice and support and your local Shell Step agent will be on hand to provide:
- An induction session to prepare you for the challenges ahead
- An interim review to ensure the project is progressing as planned
- Training on how to prepare your final report and presentation
- Any additional support and advice as and when you need it
After the project you will be entered into your local Shell Step awards, and if successful, you may progress to the regional and national competitions.
